Charlie: Replacing the exhaust manifolds and upgrading to headers is a big job on a V8 Camaro. Depending on the brand and shape of the replacement headers (but in most cases) you do have to raise the engine. Also note (just my opinion) the stock exhaust manifolds have a pretty good flow rate. You don't really gain much as far as horsepower. Again depending on the brand and the configuration of the exhaust you put behind them (maybe 10-20 hp increase.

Dear Mark: I gave up the Sparkplug change in My Camaro RS V-8 , so I took the car to a professional Mechanic and he did it just Right . Now I have an another question Mark .

To change the headers in this Camaro is it hard? My Camaro has an A/C, i just want to replace the old one for a new ones obviously I will put a new Cat . My Mayor dilemma is if I need to lift the engine to remove the old headers?
I thank you deeply for your great help.
Sincerely. Charlie

Charlie: I feel for you because I have done this task my self a few times on your model and year camaro. It's just plain hard. And each plug has a different technique to get to it. Some are easier from the bottom reaching up ( having a vehicle on a lift is nice). The hardest one I remember is around the steering shaft and exhaust manifold. On that one I slide my spark plug socket on (that has a hex base) and use a straight flat wrench to back it out.

They make several different types of spark plug sockets but none specially for the camaro that I know of. Nothing really makes it much easier. But you can protect your hands with tight fitting gloves. That will at least make it less painful!
